Shobak Castle Visit - Kerak Castle Visit - Dead Sea Hotel
Pick up from your camp in Wadi Rum, and head to visit two 12th century Crusaders Castles and a site that is known for its unique blend of civilizations: Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic. Our first stop is at Kerak de Montreal or Mons Regalis (Locally known as Al Shobak Castle), a 12th century Crusaders’ Castle built by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem to guard the road from Egypt to Damascus. Onto another significant Crusader Castle, Crac Des Moabites (locally known as Kerak Castle). Proceeding to visit Um Ar-Rassas, an ancient town distinguished for its byzantine churches dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries especially the Church of St. Stephen as the centerpiece of the town with detailed mosaic floor depicting major cities of the region in ancient times including Jerusalem, Nablus, Gaza, Karak and Philadelphia (Amman). In 2004, due to its archaeological and cultural significance Um Ar-Rassas was named by the UNESCO “the Kingdom’s third World Heritage Site”. Upon completion, transfer to your hotel at the Dead Sea for drop off.
